Sparta-Magic Capital of New Jersey! why a theater for magicians...? Sparta Ave stage was created to showcase great magic to the general public. It has become a second home to magicians hosting magic lectures, clubs, lessons, and performances by world-class magicians from around the globe. We started the stage, back in 2012, because (although it is not officially recognized as such) we consider magic an Art form. The craft requires, skill, creativity and it challenges our thinking...and it's best seen live! When we started renovating the firehouse in 2010, we never expected receiving calls from magicians in England, France, Argentina, Australia, South Philadelphia asking about playing the stage. The magic community is truly an "esprit de corps", with a common goal-to create wonder or as Jay Scott Berry, (our first performer) wrote so eloquently... "As Magicians, we use the tools of our craft like a carpenter uses his tools - To create something greater than the tools themselves...We amaze, amuse and even inspire...One can no more reveal or expose the Real Secrets of Magic than one can take apart a piano to find the music inside. For the magic, like the music, exists only in that timeless moment of the performer and the performance. It is then, and only then, that the craft of magic is elevated to what Maskelyne so aptly called 'The High Art of Magic'."
JSB-June 4, 2020 Other Events...
It is said that man does not live on magic alone. The Stage can and has hosted other events including plays, music, movies and comedy. We are equipped with LED stage lighting, audio/visual and projection capabilities including an 8' high by 16' wide movie screen. Our space (and prep kitchen) can be used for receptions, corporate events or special occasions. We also host magic birthday parties (ages 5 to 105) and can accommodate from 6 to 66 guests. Sparta Stage Inc (a non-profit 501c(3) organization) was established in 2014 "to support and provide a stage, theatre or performance space for charitable, community based and educational purposes." Please check our upcoming events page or contact Joe at (973) 903-6052 for more information and questions. |
